Star City wins 8-4A championship


MONTICELLO — The Star City Bulldogs dominated the Monticello Billies on Monday en route to a 14-5 win. The win awards the Bulldogs the No. 1 seed in the 4A South Region tournament and the outright baseball conference championship.

Zach House earned the win after pitching 6 1/3 innings and allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits with six strikeouts and three walks.

Four Bulldogs finished with three hits including Max Ross, who led the Bulldogs at the plate with two doubles and five RBIs. Tye Brown was 3 for 4, Austin Powell was 3 for 4 with four RBIs and Austin Capps was 3 for 4 with a double.

Blake Wynn was 2 for 5 with two RBIs and House was 1 for 4 with two runs scored for Star City. Wynn closed out the game, allowing one run (earned) on two hits in 2/3 of an inning.

Star City scored two runs in the first, three in the third, two in the second, three in the sixth and four in the seventh. Monticello scored two runs in the first, two in the second and one in the seventh.

Star City will face Malvern on Friday at 5 p.m. in the 4A South Region Tournament in Ashdown.

Stuttgart 5, Batesville Southside 2

HEBER SPRINGS — Three runs in the first inning was enough for the Stuttgart Ricebirds to defeat the Batesville Southside Southerners 5-2 Monday night in a 2-4A District Tournament semifinal.

Stuttgart’s Hunter Harris takes the win after pitching five innings and allowing two runs (both earned) on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

Ragen Counce led the Ricebirds at the plate, finishing 3 for 4 with two runs scored. Taylor Daniels was 2 for 3 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Stuttgart also scored a run in the second and a run in the fifth. Southside scored its two runs in the fourth and sixth innings.

Geere Elam closed out the game, pitching two innings and allowing just one walk.

Lonoke 8, Stuttgart 5

HEBER SPRINGS — Lonoke scored four runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth to take an 8-5 win over Stuttgart in the championship of the 2-4A District Tournament on Monday night.

Jon Curtis takes the loss after allowing five runs (all earned) on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings work. He also walked three and struck out three.

Geere Elam pitched 2 1/3 and allowed two runs (both earned) on three hits with a strikeout.

Stuttgart scored two runs in the first and a run in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Lonoke also scored two runs in the first inning.

Taylor Daniel was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Dontrell Brown was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

Parkers Chapel 9, Woodlawn 3

NORPHLET — Woodlawn lost 9-3 to Parkers Chapel in the 7-2A East District championship on Monday.

J.P. Aiken is credited with the loss. Aiken finished 2 for 4 a the plate, including a two-run triple in the first inning.

Colton Williams had a RBI single in the third to tie the game at 3-3.

Jacob Richardson was 2 for 3 with two doubles.

Woodlawn will play Spring Hill on Friday at 5 p.m. in the first round of the 2A-South Region Tournament in Dirks.
