Star City senior linebacker Zack Towers has been transferred to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock for evaluation just days after he was injured in Thursday’s 32-29 home victory over Crossett, coach Blair Brown confirmed Monday.
Towers sustained brain trauma during the third quarter of the game and underwent brain surgery at Jefferson Regional Medical Center over the weekend. He was then transferred to ACH.
Brown declined to state Towers’ condition, citing confidentiality laws, but he added the player’s family “is very optimistic” about his health.
Brown said he could not confirm or deny a report that Towers had complained of headaches and was held out for two games prior to Thursday, adding he had no knowledge of the headaches.
Towers’ older brother Ty quarterbacked Star City to the 4A state semifinals two years ago and now plays at Ouachita Baptist University. Ty Towers ran for 62 yards and two touchdowns in a 44-28 loss to Southern Arkansas on Saturday.
