Star City goes 2 overtimes to beat Beebe

SEARCY — Star City weathered a 28-point output from Beebe guard Austin Burroughs and a 24-point outing from center Zachary Baker to escape with a 76-72 double-overtime victory Friday in the Riverview Classic.

Tanner Chapman hit a three-point basket with 2.9 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 61. That came after Lavonte Gardner hit two free throws to up the Star City lead.

In the first overtime, D.J. Pace completed a three-point play and Reshod Davis hit 1 of 2 free throws to put Star City ahead 67-65, but Baker answered with a field goal with 4 seconds left knot it up. In the second overtime, Gardner scored off a steak by Davis to build a four-point lead the Bulldogs (6-3) would not relinquish.

Davis led Star City with 21 points, Pace had 18, Tony Matthews scored 15 and Gardner totaled 12.

Star City will play Cotter today in the Classic.

Ridgway Christian 53, Victory Christian 32

At Ridgway, Larry Tate pulled down 16 rebounds to go with 17 points, Blake Pennington had 10 points and 12 rebounds, and the Eagles (10-2, 7-1 AACS South) improved their winning streak to seven with a 21-point win over Victory Christian.

Tanner Taylor added 10 points for Ridgway.


Monticello 66, DeWitt 48

DeWITT — Four players scored in double digits as Monticello defeated DeWitt 66-48 Friday night.

Monticello was led by Erin Campbell with 19 points and Yasmine Franklin scored 15. Secreanna Griddine and Doneacsha Brown each contributed with 11 points.

Monticello improves to 4-3 (1-0 in 8-4A) and will play again on Thursday against McGehee.

Victory Christian 51, Ridgway Christian 42

Katie Davis’ 24 points powered Victory Christian past Ridgway on Friday.

Trinity Nowlin added 16 for Victory, while Madison Heflin and Taylor Allen each scored 12 to lead Ridgway (3-7, 2-4 AACS South). Julia Taylor also added seven rebounds for Ridgway.


Ridgway Christian 55, Victory Christian 16

At Ridgway, the Eagles (7-0, 3-0 AACS South) remained undefeated behind Jacob Andersen’s 13 points, Ezra Tole’s 12 and Cody Andersen’s 10. Tole added seven rebounds.

Isaiah Hickman led Victory Christian with nine.
