Redbugs extend Pirates’ losing streak

MONTICELLO — Fordyce got up 28-0 in the first half before Drew Central scored and the Redbugs rolled to a 49-26 victory Friday.

The win puts Fordyce (7-1, 4-1 6-3A Conference) in a three-way tie for first place in the conference with McGehee and Prescott, which beat the Redbugs earlier in the season.

The loss extents Drew Central’s (0-7, 0-5) losing streak to 20 games.

No stats were reported for Fordyce.

After the Redbugs went up 28-0, Will Jackson hit Sam Durden for a 65-yard touchdown.

Durden then intercepted a Fordyce pass on the ensuing possession and returned in 35 ayrds for the score as Drew Central trailed 28-12.

But Fordyce pulled away after that. Gabriel Suber scored two touchdowns in the second half and Drew Central did make two more trips inside the redzone, but were unable to score.
