Preps Roundup: SC scores 7 in seventh to down Crossett


CROSSETT — Star City scored seven runs in the seventh inning to overcome a 3-1 deficit and beat Crossett 8-3 Monday in an 8-4A Conference baseball game.

Austin Capps started the inning with a double and moved to second when Max Ross walked. Tye Brown advanced the runners with a sacrifice grounder to bring up Jackson Haynes, who doubled to center to score Capps. After Cain Patton walked, Cole Muckelroy reached safely on a squeeze bunt to score Ross for the tying run.

Zack House hit a two-RBI single to give the Bulldogs (8-5, 5-1 in 8-4A) the lead. Two runs scored on an error on Blake Wynn’s at-bat, and Austin Powell knocked in the last run.

House threw his second straight no-walk complete game, striking out four and allowing one run in 88 pitches.

Crossett fell to 4-3 in the 8-4A.

Lonoke 10, Dollarway 1

At Taylor Field, the Dollarway Cardinals (0-3 in 8-4A) lost to the 4A No. 1-ranked Lonoke Jackrabbits.

Lonoke scored one run each in the first three innings. The Jackrabbits then blew the game open, scoring five runs in the fifth.

Dollarway scored in the bottom of the fifth, with two consecutive doubles by Casey Higgins and John Reed.

Rayshon Blake was charged with the loss on the mound.

The Cardinals will face Stuttgart next Monday at Taylor Field.

Woodlawn 6, McGehee 0

WOODLAWN — The Bears (8-6) defeated the Owls 6-0 on Monday.

Jacob Richardson got things started with an RBI double in first inning. In the fifth, Caleb Holleman hit a two-run double, as the Bears scored four more runs.

For the Bears, Blake Erstine was 2 for 2 at the plate and Colton Williams earned the win. Williams went five innings, allowing only two hits, no walks, and four strikeouts.

The Bears open 7-2A East Conference play today at home against Rison.

Rained out: Pine Bluff at Monticello.

SOFTBALL

Stuttgart 3, Clinton 0

STUTTGART — The Lady Ricebirds improved to 1-3 in the 8-4A Conference with a shutout win over the Lady Yellowjackets.

Samantha Davis, Jaelyn Maddox, and Johnna Seeman each had one hit apiece for Stuttgart. Davis and Seeman drove in the three runs.

Maddox went seven innings, allowed only one hit, and had eight strikeouts to earn the win.

The Lady Ricebirds’ next game will be at home today against Harding Academy.

Lonoke 22, Dollarway 0

At Regional Park, Denisha Campbell came up with the Lady Cardinals’ only hit in a loss to the Lady Rabbits.

Dollarway fell to 0-7 and 0-5 in the 2-4A.

Postponed: Greenbrier at White Hall, Morrilton at Sheridan.

Rison’s Oliver wins long jump

MAGNET COVE — Zuntario Oliver of Rison won the long jump with a distance of 20 feet at the recent Magnet Cove Panther Relays.

Oliver also was part of the Rison 4x100-meter relay team which took second place in 45.84 seconds. Dillon Smith, Jokenzie Broughton and Jarvis Broughton ran the other legs on the relay.

Jarvis Broughton was third in the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches) and fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.56 seconds).
