Pine Bluff, Dollarway basketball games rescheduled


Pine Bluff and Dollarway high schools announced makeup dates for their basketball games that were postponed Tuesday due to icy conditions.

Dollarway will host Lonoke in girls and boys action starting at 6 p.m. next Thursday. Pine Bluff will travel to Little Rock Fair on Feb. 2, with the girls game starting at 2 p.m. and the boys game to follow.

BOYS

McGehee 47, Drew Central 46

MONTICELLO — A 10-foot floater at the buzzer kept McGehee undefeated in 8-3A Conference boys basketball play Thursday.

The Owls defeated Drew Central 47-46 to remain atop the conference in a game moved from Tuesday because of icy conditions. The Pirates (13-8, 1-1 in 8-3A) had just taken the lead with 6.6 seconds on an Edmond Hunter basket as he was fouled, but he missed the free throw and McGehee (12-2, 3-0) went the length of the court to win it.

The game was tied at 12 through one quarter and 24 at halftime. McGehee led 36-32 after three quarters.

Drew Central’s Demarius Thomas led all scorers with 24 points, while Tremaine Newton followed with seven. McGehee was led by Marcus Miller with 13 and Zach Ellis with 11.

GIRLS

Drew Central 40, McGehee 31

MONTICELLO — Drew Central got 15 points from Aaliyah Block and 12 from Tierra Gardner on Thursday in a 40-31 victory over McGehee.

Drew Central (15-7, 2-0 in 8-3A) remains atop the conference with the win. The Lady Pirates led 24-17 at halftime, but were outscored 8-3 in the final quarter.

Shakyla Begnaud led McGehee (7-6, 1-2) with 18 points.

JUNIOR HIGH GIRLS

Watson Chapel 37, Bauxite 25

BAUXITE — Watson Chapel improved to 11-4 and 6-2 in River City Conference play with a 37-25 win over Bauxite on Thursday in junior high girls basketball.

Peyton Martin scored 13 points for Watson Chapel, which will host Jacksonville at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
