The Pine Bluff baseball made quick work of Little Rock Fair on Tuesday, dispatching the Eagles 16-1 in three innings at Taylor Field.
“We got a win in the conference and that’s great,” Pine Bluff head coach Ryan Stinson said. “That helps with the seeding. Anytime we can get an extra win, it will help us get a good seed.”
Pine Bluff is now 4-7 in the 7A/6A South following the win.
“We got a chance to play, and we got some at-bats,” Stinson said.
Heading into the bottom of the third inning, Pine Bluff was leading 4-1. The Zebras sent 15 batters to the plate and scored 12 runs to end the game.
Senior Demetrius Anderson led off the inning with a single. He later scored on a wild pitch. A bunt-single by Tyler Smith, an infield single by Jordan O’Guinn and a bunt-single by Braylen Jones loaded the bases for senior Walter Ashley.
Ashley crushed a ball to left-center for a three-run triple and gave the Zebras an 8-1 lead. Ashley finished the game 2 for 4 with four runs scored and three RBIs.
“He has been doing well lately,” Stinson said. “He is seeing the ball well and has been playing great defense.”
Ashley was moved back to the lead off position on Tuesday.
“I wanted to see some things,” Stinson said. “I wanted to see how he would handle a leadoff spot. Going down the road in the playoffs and the rest of the conference, we might switch the line up a little bit.
“I just wanted him to see some pitches up top.”
Ashley later scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-1 in favor of the Zebras.
Junior Ti’Montai Bolden walked and with one out Brandon Starks would also walk. J’Marlos Johnson doubled home a run and Anderson grounded out to plate another run.
Smith walked and then scored after a stolen base and an error by the catcher.
O’Guinn then walked, Jones was hit-by-a-pitch and Ashley walked to load the bases again. Bolden hit a two-run single to plate two more runs and give the Zebras a 15-1 lead.
After a walk to Graham, Ashley was able to score on a passed ball to end the game.
Anderson earns the victory after pitching three innings. He allowed one run (earned) on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts. He was also 2 for 3 with one RBI and a run scored.
Bolden was 1 for 1 with three walks, two runs and two RBIs. Graham had a walk and one RBI. Starks was 1 for 1 with two runs and two RBIs.
Johnson was 1 for 3 with a double, a run and an RBI. O’Guinn was 1 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored. Jones was 1 for 2 with two runs scored.
The Zebras will travel to El Dorado on Friday.
“We will just have to go in, try to play hard and get one from them,” Stinson said.
