Pierce confuses Hope bats in WC win


Justin Pierce struck out seven and held Hope to two earned runs in six innings, helping host Watson Chapel take a 12-4 victory in a 5A-South baseball game Tuesday.

The game was moved up from Thursday in order to beat the forecast rainy weather.

For Watson Chapel (12-4, 7-1 in 5A-South), Jacob Owen went 3 for 5 with three RBIs, Trevor Lankford also drove in three runs going 1 for 3, Landen Colson went 2 for 2 with two RBIs, and Jalyn Jackson and Jordan Stargell each went 2 for 4. Jackson had an RBI as well.

Watson Chapel will host Magnolia on Friday.

Woodlawn 8,

Hermitage 1

WOODLAWN — Hermitage scored its only run in the first inning as the Woodlawn Bears won 8-1 Tuesday night at home.

J.P. AIken is credited with the win after three innings of work in which he allowed just two hits, two walks and five strikeouts.

For Woodlawn (12-7, 4-1 in 7-2A East), Bret Boyd pitched three innings and allowed just three walks with eight strikeouts and no hits. Jacob Richardson pitched one inning and struck out a batter.

Richardson also hit a two-run home run. Blake Erstien had a three-run double.

Trey Chapman and Steven Albright had a RBI each.

Woodlawn scored a run in the second, two in the third, four in the fifth and one in the sixth. Hermitage ‘s Chaney Richards hit a solo home run in the first inning.

Richards finished 2 for 4 with a RBI and a run scored.

Woodlawn is scheduled to play at Carlisle on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Stuttgart 14,

Star City 1

STAR CITY — Stuttgart scored 14 runs on just eight hits in five innings during Tuesday’s win over Star CIty.

Stuttgart scored four runs in the second, three in the third, four in the fourth and three in the fifth. Star City’s only run came in the first inning.

Star City’s Cain Patton pitched two innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on two hits with three walks and one strikeout.

Austin Capps pitched three innings and allowed 10 runs (seven earned) on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts. He also gave up a home run.

Star City’s Max Ross was 1 for 1 with a RBI and a walk. Austin Powell was 0 for 2 with a walk and a run scored.

For Stuttgart, Hunter Harris was 3 for 3 with three runs and five RBIs. Jay McGee was 2 for 3 with three runs and a RBI.

Taylor Daniels was 1 for 2 with two runs and Dontrell Brown finished 1 for 3 with a run and two RBIs.

Ragen Counce pitched four innings, allowed one run (earned) on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Malvern 7,

Sheridan 3 (Mon.)

MALVERN — Malvern scored three runs in the first and fifth innings as the Leopards defeated the Sheridan Yellowjackets 7-3 on Monday.

Sheridan’s Tyler McKinzie pitched five innings of relief, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts. He also allowed two home runs.

Jessie Feathers lasted just one inning and he allowed three runs (all earned) on two hits with three walks and a strikeout. He also gave up a home run.

Chase Davis led Sheridan (2-5) with two hits.

SOFTBALL

Woodlawn 14,

Hermitage 0 (5 inn.)

WOODLAWN — Lily Henderson and Madisyn Stewart combined for a no-hitter as Woodlawn defeated Hermitage 14-0 on Tuesday at home.

Henderson pitched the first three innings and Stewart worked the final two innings.

Henderson was also 1 for 2 with a double and two RBIs.

Jordan Riley was 3 for 3 with a double and two stolen bases. Amber Helms was hit-by-a-pitch three times and scored twice.

Woodlawn improves to 14-5 and 11-2 in 7-2A East.
