SEARCY — Just when it seemed this would be the year McGehee breaks through and finally reaches a state championship game in boys basketball, Episcopal Collegiate spoiled all the plans.
Little Rock-based Episcopal overcame a halftime deficit and beat McGehee 51-44 Saturday night in a 3A state semifinal at Riverview High, ending the Owls’ season at 23-4. It was the Owls’ second state semifinal in the past three years.
Zach Ellis led McGehee with 16 points. Tracy Lawson added 15 and Maurice Hudson had 12.
The Owls made it to the semifinal by defeating Osceola late Friday night, but could hold on to a lead against the Wildcats on Saturday. Further details on the game were not available.
McGehee was seeking its first state basketball title to go along with the 8-3A Conference 3A Region 4 championships it won this season.
