Mistakes not enough to hurt Zebras

WEST MEMPHIS — The Pine Bluff Zebras made a ton of mistakes in Tuesday’s scrimmage game against the West Memphis Blue Devils, but were still able to win 33-14.

“Our kids played real hard,” head coach Bobby Bolding said. “Just have to go back to practice and correct some mistakes.”

Bolding said the Zebras made just about every kind of mistake you can make in a football game.

“We had some missed assignments, some missed blocks, drop snaps, bad snaps and missed tackles,” Bolding said. “You name it, we did it tonight.”

Pine Bluff also missed a PAT and aligned wrong on defense. Bolding said when you start nine sophomores, mistakes are going to happen.

“They want to do it right, we just have not had enough repetition,” Bolding said. “We are just going to have to practice. The more repetition, the better you get at it.

“We just aren’t at that stage yet.”

Pine Bluff also uses a couple of inexperienced juniors and seniors.

The starters played the first, third and fourth quarters, while the second team played the second quarter. Pine Bluff used three passes and ran four running plays.

“We didn’t do anything special,” Bolding said.

Pine Bluff will look at the film from the tonight to try to correct the mistakes to get ready for the Sept. 6 season opener at home against Fort Smith Northside.

“They want to be good and they want to prove to people that they can be a good football team,” Bolding said. “We are just going to have to work tomorrow to try to correct the mistakes.”
