Marion back in SEARK Holiday final

MONTICELLO — Thanks to the defending champion, there won’t be an all-Monticello boys championship final of the Southeast Arkansas Holiday Tournament.

Class 6A power Marion won a rematch of last year’s title game Friday, topping Monticello 37-34 behind Everette Thomas’ 11 points. Now the Patriots await the winner of Drew Central vs. Bastrop (La.) for tonight’s title game, set for 7:30 at the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s Steelman Fieldhouse.

White Hall 72, Stuttgart 64

MONTICELLO — The Bulldogs reached the consolation final of the SEARK Holiday Tournament, getting 13 points from Tyler Pirson.

K.J. Avery led Stuttgart with 21 points. Allante Stewart added 17.

White Hall will play McGehee at 1:30 p.m. today at UAM.

McGehee 55, Fordyce 36

MONTICELLO — The Owls easily handed their soon-to-be 8-3A Conference rival in the other consolation game of the SEARK Holiday Tournament.

Dangelo Powell had 12 points and Marcus Miller poured in 11 to lead the Owls. Rashad Allen led Fordyce with 15.

Warren 54, Dermott 37

HAMPTON — The Lumberjacks (4-0) moved into the championship game of a tournament here with nine players making the scoring column.

Von Eric Gonder led Warren with 12 points, and Ryan Clary added 11.

On Thursday, Warren beat Camden Harmony Grove 65-52. Kaleel Thomas scored a game-high 19 points, Darveon Brown had 17 and Lafoy Smith had 10 for Warren.

The Lumberjacks will play Gurdon at 7:40 tonight.


Sheridan 45, McGehee 36

MONTICELLO — Sheridan was a late addition to the Southeast Arkansas Holiday Tournament.

Now the Lady Jackets are a win away from taking the championship.

Behind Kadesha Cooper’s 12 points and Bryanna Moltz’s 11, Sheridan advanced to the championship game with a victory over McGehee at Drew Central. Sheridan and Drew Central will play at 6 tonight at the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s Steelman Fieldhouse.

Shakyla Begnaud led McGehee with 17 points. McGehee will play White Hall for third place at 3 p.m. today at UAM.

Drew Central 50, White Hall 40

MONTICELLO — The Lady Pirates will go next door to UAM for a shot at the SEARK Holiday Tournament championship.

Aaliyah Block had 15 points and Cierra Gardner added 11 for Drew Central in a 10-point win against White Hall. JaeLisa Allen and Rachel Box each netted 12 points for White Hall.

Stuttgart 61, Dollarway 31

MONTICELLO — In a preview of their 2-4A Conference meetings, Haley Johnson scored a game high 18 points for the Lady Ricebirds in a decisive victory over the Lady Cardinals in the first consolation game of the SEARK Holiday Tournament.

Candice Haynes and Alia Jackson each scored 10 points to lead Dollarway.

Dumas 46, Monticello 40

MONTICELLO — In the other SEARK Holiday Tournament consolation game, Yasmine Franklin’s 20 points were not enough for the Lady Billies to get past new 8-4A Conference foe Dumas.

Terlecia Railey had 12 points to lead the Lady Cats, who will play Stuttgart at noon today in the consolation final.

Benton 41, Watson Chapel 31

GREENBRIER — The Lady Wildcats slipped to 5-6 with a 10-point defeat in a Battle at the ‘Brier tournament game.

Jasmine Bell led Watson Chapel with eight points.

The Lady Wildcats will play at 2:30 p.m. today.

Heber Springs 53, Star City 40

HEBER SPRINGS — Star City scored just three points in the second quarter and six in the fourth as it lost to Heber Springs at the Heber Springs Holiday Classic.

Tyeshia Harris scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Star City (9-3).

Star City will play again at 4 p.m. today.
