Gattis strikes out 10, but Nemo Vista survives


At Taylor Field, Nemo Vista could only muster three hits off Justin Gattis, but that was all the Red Hawks needed to take a 5-2 win over County Line in the nightcap of the 1A state baseball tournament.

Nemo Vista will take on Armorel at 2:30 p.m. today at White Hall High School.

Gattis struck out 10 in a losing effort for the Indians. He went 2 for 2 at the plate.

For Nemo Vista, Houston Ross, Gunner Gilliam and Ryan Andrews lined the three hits. Gilliam drove in two runs.

Ross allowed two runs on four hits, struck out five and walked five in three innings of work for the win. Jerek Mallett took the save after allowing no hits and striking out three the rest of the way.

Taylor 5, Norfork 3

At Taylor Field, Robert Tompkins went 2 for 4 with a double in leading Taylor past Norfork.

Norfork scored all three of its runs in the fifth inning to pull within 4-3. Dakota Rhymer, Guinn Ellison and Zane Harris each had two hits for Norfork.

Taylor will face Sacred Heart at noon today at White Hall.

Sacred Heart 9, Bruno-Pyatt 0

At Taylor Field, Adam Hoyt scored three runs and Sacred Heart led 8-0 after three innings on its way to a win.

Joe Beck struck out seven and gave up three hits in six innings of work for Sacred Heart.
