Downing lifts Chapel past El Dorado


EL DORADO — Lexie Downing got it done on the mound and at the plate Thursday night as she and the Watson Chapel Lady Wildcats defeated El Dorado 4-3.

Downing pitched a complete game, allowing nine hits with three walks and 11 strikeouts. She led the Lady Wildcats at plate, finishing the night 3 of 4 with two doubles.

Harley Easter, Maegan Greer and Jamie Bridges finished 1 for 3. Lauren McCullough was also 1 for 3 with a double.

Chapel (2-1) scored a run in the first, one in the third and two in the fourth. El Dorado scored a run in the third, sixth and seventh inning.

Chapel will play Texarkana today in a tournament at Benton High School.

Pine Bluff 22

Little Rock Mills 3

The Pine Bluff softball team scored 13 runs in the first and nine in the second as they defeated Little Rock Mills 22-3 in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday night at home.

Jada Taylor was credited with the win, allowing just three runs on three hits in three innings of work. Mills scored all three of its runs in the first inning.

Taylor was also 2 of 2 at the plate. Ajia Richards was 2 for 2 and Amber McDonald scored five runs. Pine Bluff had 12 hits in the game.

Pine Bluff 29,

Little Rock Mills 4

In the second game of the doubleheader, Pine Bluff scored 16 runs in the first and 13 runs in the second as they defeated Little Rock Mills 29-4.

Jada Taylor had three hits including a three-run home run. Kialandrea Kilpatrick had a three-run triple and Ryan Gonis had an inside the park home run that scored two.

Uniquea Norwood was 3 for 3.

Pine Bluff (2-0) tallied 18 hits in the game will play at Texarkana on Tuesday. The Fillies will return home next Friday to face Dollarway.

BASEBALL

Watson Chapel 11,

Mena 1

SHERIDAN — The Watson Chapel baseball team scored seven runs in the second inning as they defeated Mena 11-1 in five innings at a tournament in Sheridan.

Chapel used three pitchers and they combined to allow just one run on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Jalyn Jackson led the Wildcats with two hits with a run and a RBI. Landen Colson was 1 for 3 with a run scored and two RBis. Jacob Owen was 1 for 4 with two RBIs.

Chapel also scored a run in the first, two in the third and one in the fifth. The team combined for nine hits.

Mena scored its only run in the fourth.

Benton 2,

Watson Chapel 1

SHERIDAN — Benton scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Panthers defeated the Watson Chapel baseball team 2-1 Thursday in a tournament at Sheridan High School.

Starter Josh Dardenne pitched five innings, allowing one run (earned) on five htis with three strikeouts. Cameron Banks pitched an inning, allowing one run (earned) on one hit with a walk.

For Watson Chapel, Jalyn Jackson was 2 for 3 and Dardenne was 0 for 2 with a walk and a run scored. Landen Colson and Banks had the other two hits for Chapel.

Chapel scored its only run in the third inning.
