Dollarway wins junior district

LONOKE — The Dollarway junior high boys basketball team won the 2-4A District Tournament championship Saturday by defeating Marianna 38-35.

Kendrick Hunter scored 15 points and Cameron Girley scored 11. Montarious Shorter grabbed 11 rebounds.

Dollarway finished the year 23-2 in 7-0 in conference. The Cardinals led 18-13 at halftime.

Southwest Christian 28, Ridgway Christian 19

LITTLE ROCK — The Eagles (15-4) struggled to get shots to fall at Southwest Christian, and the Lions denied the Eagles a return trip to the championship game of the Arkansas Association of Christian Schools state tournament.

Cody Andersen led Ridgway with 11 points and Ezra Tole added six points. Jacob Dedman pulled down 11 rebounds.

The championship will be held next Saturday in Magnolia.

Jacksonville 49, Watson Chapel 40

JACKSONVILLE — The Wildcats were eliminated from the semifinals of the River City Conference tournament despite getting 18 points from Terrell Williams and 10 from D.J. Williams.

Watson Chapel finished the season 13-11.

“I’m real proud of the guys,” Wildcats coach Ray Mitchell said.


Sylvan Hills 54, Watson Chapel 42

JACKSONVILLE — The Lady Bears ended the Lady Wildcats’ season at 15-6 in the semifinals of the River City Conference tournament.

Morgan Monk led Watson Chapel with 16 points.

Southwest Christian 46, Ridgway Christian 8

LITTLE ROCK — The Lady Eagles (6-6) could not overcome a 26-1 halftime deficit and lost its AACS state semfiinal to the Lady Lions.

Lauren Rose scored four points and had nine rebounds, and Taylor Allen added three points for Ridgway.


McGehee 54, Camden Harmony Grove 46

HARMONY GROVE — The McGehee Owls finished undefeated in 8-3A Conference play with a 54-46 win over the Camden Harmony Grove Hornets on Friday night.

McGehee (17-2, 8-0 in 8-3A) was led by Zachary Ellis with 21 points and Marcus Miller with 14. McGehee led 23-21 at halftime.

The Owls will play the winner of Harmony Grove and Smackover game on Wednesday in the 8-3A District Tournament at Smackover. The district championship will be held Friday.
