NEWPORT — After one half of play, it appeared Lonoke would defeat Dollarway a second straight time in boys basketball.
Dollarway responded after trailing 20-13 at halftime and got 16 points from DeQuan Christmas off the bench to win the 2-4A District Tournament championship, 45-38 over Lonoke on Saturday night. The Cardinals (24-2), who have won seven straight, outscored the Jackrabbits (18-6) 13-4 in the final quarter.
Kabion Ento had 10 points and Davonne Chapman added eight for Dollarway. Lonoke was led by Darius McCall with 12 points and Blake Mack with 11.
Dollarway will take on Jonesboro Westside at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the first round of the 3A East Region Tournament at Heber Springs, with the winner of that game earning an automatic berth into the state tournament. Dollarway defeated Westside 50-49 in overtime of last year’s 4A state quarterfinal game.
