Robey junior high girls lose
The Jack Robey junior high girls basketball team drop to 5-9 overall after fall to El Dorado 33-29 on Thursday.
Jack Robey was led by Chantinece Taylor who had 19 points. Robey will play at Star City next Thursday.
Robey loses to El Dorado in OT
The Jack Robey ninth grade boys basketball team drop to 12-5 over a heartbreaking 43-41 loss in overtime to El Dorado Thursday night.
Brandon Lowe led Robey with 12 points and Kyron Crutchfield scored nine.
The next game is scheduled for January 19 against Star City.
In other action, the eighth grade boys team lost 35-24 to El Dorado to drop to 5-3 on the year.
Chapel knocks off CAC
The Watson Chapel junior high girls basketball team picked up a huge victory on the road Thursday when they defeated Central Arkansas Christian 39-31 at CAC.
Chapel was led by Morgan Monk with 11 and Peyton Martin chipped in with nine points.
Chapel led 18-10 at the half. The Lady Wildcats improve to 10-14 overall and 5-2 in the 5A-South conference.
Chapel will host Jacksonville on Monday.
Southern Nazarene drops UAM
MONTICELLO — Southern Nazarene came back from an 11-0 deficit in the first five minutes to defeat the University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team by a final score of 61-52 inside Steelman Fieldhouse.
Junior guard Ashley Qualls made all of her eight field goal attempts in the first half for a total of 17 points throughout the first 20 minutes.
As a team, UAM (2-10, 0-7 GAC) shot 31 percent from the field, 25 percent on three-pointers and 59 percent on foul shots. SNU (6-7, 3-4) shot 37 percent from the field, 15 percent on three-pointers and 92 percent on foul shots.
Qualls finished with a career-high 19 points.
Forge, Sims lead Weevils to Win
MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball team forced 27 turnovers and shot 47 percent from the field in a 72-56 win over Southern Nazarene on Thursday at home.
Senior guard Kori Forge and junior Brandon Sims led the way for the Boll Weevils (8-5, 3-4 GAC). Forge poured in 33 points on 13-of-21 shooting performance, including 7 of 11 from the the three-point range. Forge also added five rebounds, three assists and six steals.
Sims chipped in with a career-high 16 points and making 4 of 8 field goals and a perfect 7 of 7 foul shots.
As a team, UAM shot 47 percent from the field, 56 percent on three-pointers and 78 percent on foul shots. SNU shot 46 percent from the field, seven percent on three-pointers and 60 percent on foul shots.
Brady Buford led SNU (7-6, 2-5 GAC) with 22 points at seven rebounds, followed by Aaron Ryan with 17 points.
Oregon hands Arizona its first loss
EUGENE, Ore. — E.J. Singler scored 14 points and Oregon overcame a slow start to beat Arizona 70-66 on Thursday night, handing their first loss of the season.
Dominic Artis, Carlos Emory and Tony Woods had 10 points apiece for the Ducks (13-2, 2-0 Pac-12), who have won 17 straight home games, including all 11 this season.
Mark Lyons scored 21 and Solomon Hill added 16 points to lead the Wildcats (14-1, 2-1), who entered as one of three undefeated teams in the country.
