The 2-4A Dollarway Cardinals (2-0) will look to sweep their nonconference schedule when they travel to 8-4A Crossett (1-1) on Friday.
The Cardinals are coming off an impressive 42-3 victory over 7A/6A-Central Little Rock Parkview, whereas the Eagles will try to bounce back from a 20-8 home loss to 6-3A Fordyce. Other than Magnolia, Crossett hasn’t beaten a nonconference opponent since 2009.
Dollarway’s head coach Cortez Lee said he will be looking for specific improvements as they prepare for their final nonconference game.
“I’ll be looking for vast improvements as far as offensive line play and everybody knowing their assignments,” Lee said. “There’s some things we needed to work on and we just want to make sure all those improvements are made.”
Dollarway defeated Crossett 32-13 last year at home in the first meeting of the two schools. On Friday, the Cardinals will be looking for another good performance by senior leader and quarterback Joshua Liddell.
Lee said Liddell had an average game last week and expects him to keep improving throughout the year.
“I expect for him to continue to get better,” he said. “I have an idea of what his skill set is. I want to see him make the improvements and continue to be the leader that he has shown to be throughout this year.”
Liddell threw for a touchdown and ran for a touchdown in the win over Parkview last week.
Lee has a good idea of what he will see from Crossett on Friday and expects his defense to be ready to battle.
“They (Crossett) are a spread team,” Lee said. “They like to spread the ball around and they like to run a lot of screens. Their offense will try to exploit you with the screen.
“We are just going to make sure we have the calls made and we are going to make sure we are not out of alignment on our defense. We will be looking for the right call and we will be prepared to (go on Friday).”
Dollarway and Crossett will kick off at 7 p.m. at Crossett High School.
