Cardinals hold off Badgers in overtime

FORDYCE — Dollarway needed overtime Thursday to secure its spot in the FBT Bank & Mortgage Classic with a 54-53 victory over Arkadelphia.

Kenneth Lewis hit a three-point basket with 45 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 46, and Dollarway could not score before the period was over. Dollarway was ahead 54-50 until Arkadelphia hit a three at the final buzzer.

Davonne Chapman led the winning Cardinals with 19 points. Kabion Ento and Joshua Liddell added seven apiece.

The Cardinals, who led 32-28 at halftime, hit 21 of 59 from the field, but outrebounded the Badgers 40-28. Arkadelphia committed 16 turnovers to Dollarway’s 10.

Dollarway will play its first 2-4A Conference game tonight at home against Newport, then play Malvern or Hamburg at 8:30 p.m. Saturday for the FBT Classic title.

St. Joseph 49, Westside Baptist 44

Host St. Joseph trailed 10-6 at the end of the first quarter, but rallied to lead 27-18 at half and went on to defeat Westside Baptist of El Dorado.

Randy Whiteside led St. Joseph with 14 points and Joshua Sanders had 13.

St. Joseph (2-6, 1-4 AACS South) will play again today at Victory Christian.

Drew Central 70, Brinkley 42

DeWITT — Drew Central defeated Brinkley 70-42 Thursday in the DeWitt tournament. Jerelle Binns led Drew Central with 17 points. Demarius Thomas had 15 and and Tremanie Newton had 11.

Drew Central will play Barton in the consolation finals on Saturday beginning at 11:45 a.m.


Drew Central 54, England 47

Drew Central advanced to the championship game of the DeWitt tournament after defeating England on Thursday.

Aaliyah Block led the team with 11 points. Cierra Gardner and Avion Gardner had 10 points apiece. Drew Central led 30-19 at half.

Drew Central will play the winner of DeWitt and Forrest City at 3 p.m. Saturday in the championship game.


Jack Robey 43, Dollarway 33

At Jack Robey Junior High, Dollarway was handed its first loss of the season.

Kendrick Hunter led the team with 12 and Sharodick Williams had eight points. Cameron Girley chipped in with eight points.

Dollarway (7-1) will play in its first conference game on Monday against Lonoke.

At Jack Robey, the Lady Cardinals improved to 7-1. They will play at 5 p.m. today against Newport at home.

Pulaski Academy 36, Watson Chapel 29

At Watson Chapel, Morgan Monk had eight points and Peyton Martin added seven in the Lady Wildcats’ first River City Conference loss of the season.

Watson Chapel drops to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
