LITTLE ROCK — Following years of heartbreak deep into the playoffs, Camden Fairview finally came away with a state football championship Friday night.
Matt Ollison was nearly perfect passing and threw for two touchdowns in leading the Cardinals to a 28-10 victory over Batesville on Friday in the 5A championship at War Memorial Stadium. The win completes a 14-0 season for Camden Fairview, led by former Star City coach Buck James.
Ollison completed 10 of 12 passes for 222 yards. Braxton Hoof hauled in three of the passes for 121 yards and a TD, with Jamie Smith getting the other TD catch from Ollison.
Deion Holliman ran for the Cardinals’ two other touchdowns.
Batesville (10-4), which led 10-0 at halftime, lost in its second straight championship appearance, following its 2011 defeat to Greenwood.
Camden Fairview lost the 5A title in 2009 to Monticello and again the following year to Greenwood, which knocked out the Cardinals in the semifinals last year.
