Camden Fairview pulls away in 2nd half

White Hall put on an impressive fireworks display right before the opening kickoff, while Camden Fairview waited until the second half to fire off all its guns.

The Bulldogs (3-1, 1-1 in 5A-South) welcomed the Cardinals (4-0, 2-0) to Bulldogs Stadium with a big crowd and a big pyrotechnic show right before the coin toss, but the Cardinals scored 34 points in the second half to break open a close ballgame and won by the final score of 47-8.

Camden Fairview led only 6-0 late in the first half following 32-yard pass from Matthew Ollison to Braxton Hoff in the first quarter. White Hall appeared on the verge of tying the game or taking the lead after a long pass to Joseph Stewart gave the Bulldogs a first-and-goal at the CF 3-yard line, but the Cardinals managed to make a goal-line stand, and turned the contest in their favor.

After stopping four straight running plays to take over on its own 2-yard line, Camden Fairview drove 98 yards and scored with 8 seconds to go before halftime, when Ollison hit Jerry Moorehead from 8 yards out to put the Cards up 13-0 at intermission.

Camden Fairview then took the opening kickoff of the second half and opened up the floodgates, getting Moorehead and Jamie Smith starting to pick up big gains against the tiring White Hall defense. Moorehead caught a 5-yard pass with 10:24 left in the third before Smith scored from 3 yards out with 6 minutes left in the period. Camden Fairview then scored with 1:28 left in the third when Smith scored from 8 yards out, but a try for two which would have started the mercy rule was no good.

White Hall then got its only score of the night following a pair of huge passes from Terrance Warren. Stewart tossed a wingback pass to Percy Arnold for the touchdown from 10 yards out to get the Bulldogs to within 33-8, following a two-point run by Warren.

Camden Fairview put the game away in the fourth, however, getting a 4-yard touchdown run from Cornelius Page and a 11-yard run by Darius Fletcher. Camden Fairview finished with 258 yard rushing and 226 yards passing for a total offense of 484 with 19 first downs. White Hall was held to 82 yards rushing and 130 yards passing for a total offense of 212 yards and 10 first downs.

Ollison finished completing 11 of 17 passes for 226 yards while Smith ran 17 times for 122 yards. Moorehead caught 5 passes for 142 yards while Hoof had 4 catches for 103.

Warren led White Hall with 40 yards rushing and 6 of 14 passing.
