Bulldogs rebound from rough start

CAMDEN – After falling behind 14-0 in the first quarter, Star City battled back for a 38-28 win over Camden Harmony Grove on Friday.

The Hornets scored first with a touchdown run and then a 53-yard fumble recovery for a score with 5:30 left in the first quarter.

Zack House scored on a 19-yard run with 2:25 left in the opening period to get Star City (2-0) on the board and the Bulldogs went into halftime tied at 14 thanks to a Lavonte Gardner 9-yard run in the second quarter.

Star City struck first in the second half when House found Reshod Davis for a one-yard touchdown pass.Camden Harmony Grove answered with a score and had a 21-20 lead when Gardner scored again on a 3-yard run with 2:10 left in the third quarter.

That sparked an 18-0 run for the Bulldogs as Reshod Davis scored on a 57-yard punt return and Dajunn Harris added a 71-yard touchdown run with 2:58 left in the game and a 38-21 lead.

The Hornets scored with 52 seconds left and recovered the onside kick, but Star City stopped them from doing anymore damage.

Star City had 346 yards rushing in the win and Gardner had 109 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns. Harris added 106 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown and House rounded out the ground game with 80 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

Corey Tipton had 7.5 tackles and one sack for the Bulldogs’ defense.
