30-point third quarter helps Bulldogs

DeWITT — Star City scored 30 points in the third quarter after trailing 7-2 at halftime to take control against DeWitt as the Bulldogs went on to win 37-14.

Star City (7-2, 4-2 8-4A Conference) was able to make three trips inside DeWitt’s 5-yard line, but two turnovers and a turnover on downs kept DeWitt on top.

“We went up and down the field and didn’t score,” Star City coach Blair Brown said. “I credit the kids from DeWitt for playing with their hearts out. We killed them up and down the field and they were huge in there.”

Star City took the lead on Zack House’s 1-yard run and then went up 16-7 on Rashod Davis’ 47-yard run. DaJunn Harris followed with a 35-yard run and Lavonte Gardner hauled in a 30-yard pass from Ty Brown to make it 30-7.

In the fourth quarter, House hauled in a 6-yard pass from Brown to cap Star City’s scoring for the game.

“In the second half, we stabilized some things, made adjusts and were able to make some plays,” Blair Brown said.

Ty Brown passed for 172 yards and two touchdown. House passed for 15 yards, rushed for 73 yards on 11 carries and hauled in four catches for 86 yards and a touchdown.

Davis had five carries for 84 yards and a touchdown and Harris had five carries for 94 yards and a score.
