Woodlawn advances to district final


NORPHLET — The Woodlawn Bears advanced to the 2A East district final on Saturday when they defeated Rison 8-0 at Norphlet High School.

J.P. Aiken pitched three innings and allowed just one hit with one walk and a strikeout. Aiken also hit a two-run home run.

Blake Erstine was 2 for 3 with a RBI and Taylor Stitt had a RBI single. Colton Williams also had a RBI single.

Jacob Richardson pitched two innings, struck out six with one walk and allowed just one hit. Bret Boyd pitched two innings, allowing just one hit with four strikeouts.

Woodlawn will face Parkers Chapel on Monday at 6:30 p.m. for the district title.

Watson Chapel 10,

Camden Fairview 2 (Fri.)

CAMDEN — The Watson Chapel Wildcats scored six runs in the first inning en route to a 10-2 win over Camden Fairview on Friday night.

Josh Dardenne pitched a complete game and allowed two runs (two earned) on seven hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Dardenne was also 0 for 2 at the plate with two walks and two runs scored.

Chapel also scored three runs in the third and one in the sixth. They had eight hits and committed just one error in the game.

Jaylan Jackson was 1 for 3 with a run and three RBIs. Jacob Owen was 1 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Dylan Barker was 1 for 2 with three RBIs and a run scored.

SOFTBALL

Woodlawn 3,

Bearden 0

NORPHLET — Lily Henderson pitched a complete game and the Woodlawn Lady Bears defeated Bearden 3-0 on Saturday.

Henderson allowed just three hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. Bearden never had more than one person on base in the loss.

Bearden’s best chance to score was in the fifth when they got a runner to third with only one out. But Henderson struck out the next two batters to strand the runner.

Megan Howerd hit a home run in the sixth for Woodlawn and Laynie Nelson finished 2 for 3.

Woodlawn (18-8) will face Junction City on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
