UA unveils non-league basketball schedule

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas’ nonconference men’s basketball schedule will highlighted by a trip to the Maui Invitational and home games against Clemson and SMU.

The finalized schedule was released by the Razorbacks on Monday. It came a few weeks after the SEC unveiled the 16-game conference schedule. Arkansas’ 13 nonconference games begin with the season opener Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Nov. 8 in Bud Walton Arena and end with a home game against Texas-San Antonio on Jan. 4.

In between, Arkansas will play three games at the Maui Invitational beginning with a Nov. 25 date against California. The Razorbacks will play either Syracuse or Minnesota on Nov. 26 and its third opponent at the tournament will be determined.

The Razorbacks will be tested before the trip to Maui with a home game against SMU, which is led by second-year coach Larry Brown. It’s part of a home-and-home series with the Mustangs. Arkansas will travel to play at SMU next season.

Arkansas also begins a home-and-home agreement with Clemson on Dec. 7. It will be just the second time an Atlantic Coast Conference school has played Arkansas in Bud Walton Arena. Wake Forest played at Arkansas in the Preseason NIT.

Nine of Arkansas’ 13 nonconference games are in Bud Walton Arena. Three others are neutral site games at the Maui Invitational. Arkansas also plays one game in North Little Rock against South Alabama on Dec. 21.
