A-State signs former Utah State quarterback
JONESBORO — Adam Kennedy, a 6-foot-5, 219-pound quarterback who played the last two seasons at Utah State, has signed with Arkansas State and will be eligible for the 2013 season.
Kennedy threw for 972 yards and 11 touchdowns in eight games as a sophomore in 2011. He started five games that season (4-1 record) and led the Aggies to the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
Kennedy completed 72 of 105 passing attempts over the final six games and posted a passing efficiency rating of 169.04.
He attempted only two passes in two games last year while in a reserve role behind All-Western Athletic Conference quarterback Chuckie Keeton.
MVSU kicker/golfer dies in car accident
ITTA BENA, Miss. — Four Mississippi Valley State student-athletes were involved in a one-car accident Thursday evening in Leflore County, according to the school’s sports information office.
The driver, Kevin Monzon, 19, a junior from Crystal Springs, Miss., died at the scene. Monzon was a placekicker on the football team and also played on the golf team at Valley.
A second passenger, Marcus Thompson, was air-lifted to University Medical Center in Jackson. Passengers Kevin James and Joseph Hardnett were transported to the Greenwood-Leflore Hospital with minor injuries.
Report: Selig to retire in 2015
Baseball commissioner Bud Selig told CBSSports.com he plans to retire when his current two-year deal expires Jan. 15. 2015.
“You can believe it,” Selig told CBSSports.com.
Selig was offered a five-year extension when he took the two-year deal without hesitation, the website reported, citing two ownership sources.
