Selecting individuals for their job ability

Dear Editor:

I was amazed to see that Assistant Chief Whitfield’s brother complained about him not being made interim chief. How short their memory is. It was Chief Whitfield whose gun was missing and used in a felony. That’s not who I think should be chief. He retired to run for office. When he lost the election he returned to the police department. It seems the police department is his second choice.

Why must everything be a race issue? Selections should be made on the job they can do, not on the color of their skin.

I believe the new mayor is doing just that. And will continue to do so.
