In Flanders Field, the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row

that mark our place…

Col John McCrae wrote this poem to honor the veterans of World War One. Today we honor veterans from all wars with Memorial Day. Hearin-Connolly Post #32 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit #32 will distribute poppies made by veterans in the hospitals on Saturday, May 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Brookshire’s on 28th. Donations will support veterans in hospitals as well as local veterans and their families.

At Christmas the Post and Auxiliary provide gifts to veterans in our local nursing homes All proceeds are used for veterans. With more military returning from overseas in the current conflicts, it becomes vital to aid these veterans and their families.

On Sunday, May 26th, at 2 p.m., Hearin-Connolly Post will hold a Memorial Day Service at the Veterans Section of Graceland Cemetery to honor veterans of all branches of service and all wars. We thank our community for their commitment to these veterans through the years and ask that you continue to give them your donations and prayers.
