Community makes tournament a success

Editor, The Commercial:

The Class 5A State Basketball Tournament held in Pine Bluff just recently was a great example of what our community can do working together. Thirty-two teams and their fans from all over Arkansas enjoyed the hospitality Pine Bluff is famous for. Chief Hubanks and the officers of the Pine Bluff Police Department were gracious providers of security for our guests. Chief Howell and our first responders made sure we were ready for any emergency that might arise during the tournament.

Billy Hulse and his team along with the Americorps team manned the concession stands and kept the refreshments flowing. Our restaurants, hotels and retailers gave great service to our visitors. The administration and athletic department along with a bunch of the students from Watson Chapel School District did an outstanding job of coordinating all the details from team escorts to the scorer’s table.

Sheri Storie and the rest of the staff here at the Convention Center put in long hours and wore out lots of shoe leather keeping the tournament running and the building in top shape. The result of everyone’s hard work is a lot of good will for Pine Bluff and a bunch of money spent in our town.

Thanks Everyone!
