Rev. W.T. Washington, 79, of Pine Bluff passed away Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the Arkansas Convalescent Center. Visitation: 2-7 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2012 at Brown’s Funeral Home (Family Hour 5:30-6:30 p.m.). Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday November 24, 2012 at St John A.M.E Church in Pine Bluff, Rev. James Thomas officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 9:45 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow in the VA section of Graceland Cemetery in Pine Bluff by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff. W.T. was born August 17, 1933 in Longview to the late Verna Franklin Washington-Thomas and Hogan Washington and graduated from Drew High School. At 19, he joined the Navy and was sent to Japan during the Korean Conflict. In 1954, W.T received his license to preach from Presiding Elder Rev. C.M. Hankins at Pilgrim Rest A.M.E. Church. He completed his Associate Degree at Shorter College in 1956. Also in 1956, he was ordained a Deacon in the Arkansas Conference. On October 20, 1962, he was ordained an Elder in the Arkansas Conference by Bishop O.L. Sherman.
W.T. was united in holy matrimony to Piccola Bright on August 16, 1964, to this union two children were born. He continued his education at U.A.P.B. to receive his Bachelor of Arts in Humanities in 1976 and received his Master of Divinity at Jackson Theological Seminary in 1982. He faithfully served God and led many congregations in the AME church for over 50 years. He retired January 2007. He is currently a member of the Electric Light Lodge No. 45 of M.W. Prince Hall Grand Lodge, F. & A.M. of Arkansas (member since 1966).
Survivors: wife - Piccola Washington; children - Michael Washington of Little Rock, Sonja (Alex) McKinley of Little Rock.; Timothy (Schilia) Washington of Houston and Felisha Washington of Keller; Aunts; Rosie Grays, Addie B. Washington and Cozetta Lambert; Uncle Melvin Franklin; eight grand-children; eight great-grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews and many friends.
