W. E. “Doc” Evans, age 91, of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, November 3, 2012.
He was born January 30, 1921 at Sunflower, Miss., a son of the late David Martin Evans and Myrtle Elizabeth Kelly Evans. During World War II, he served in the United States Army Air Corps.
A resident of Pine Bluff since 1948, for he worked as a DX service station manager for Elliott Oil Company for 30 years. Mr. Evans was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church and was a Master Gardener. He was a Master Mason for over 50 years, and was a member of Jacob Brump Lodge #160, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of the Sahara Shriners and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Mr. Evans was also predeceased in 1998 by his wife, Edith Fryar Evans, whom he married on December 23, 1939 at Dumas; an infant son, James Roy Evans; four brothers, Elmer Evans, Raymond Evans, Walter Evans, and James Evans; a sister, Ruby Conrad Hahn, and his step-mother, Ann McLaughlin Evans.
Survivors include his children, Thomas Evans (Barbara) of Star City, Betty Wise (James) of Marietta, Ga., and Robert Evans (Susan) and Brenda Brown (David), all of Pine Bluff; a brother, Earl Evans of Greenville, Miss.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery with Masonic Rites. Arrangements are by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
