Travis Huggins


Elder Travis Glenn Huggins was born to the late Elder P. J. and the late Mother Freddie Mae Huggins on February 28, 1958, in Sweet Home, Arkansas, right outside of Little Rock. Travis entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 10, 2012, at Charlton Medical Center, Desoto, Texas.

Travis grew up in the Church of God Pentecostal pastored by his father and served as organist, pianist and guitarist. He was a studious child and attended the Grady School System where he graduated Valedictorian in the Class of 1976. Travis attended the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff (UAPB) where he majored in chemical engineering and later worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal and Arkansas Dept. of Corrections for many years. Travis met and married the late Brenda Lynette Irene Gaston on December 17, 1983. They were happily married until her death on Memorial Day, May 28, 1990. Although they had no children of their own, they mentored and nurtured a host of siblings, nieces, nephews, and youth of the church.

Travis moved to Atlanta, Ga. in 1984 joining the Church of God Pentecostal under the leadership of the late Overseer Clarence Allen. He was called into the ministry in 1988 and served faithfully under Overseer Allen as minister of music and Sunday School Superintendent. Travis accepted a pastorate of The True Foundation Church of God in 1996 until his illness. While in Atlanta Travis also owned and operated a lawn service business over 20 years. In April 2010 he relocated to Desoto, a suburb of Dallas.

Travis was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandfathers: John Henry Huggins, Sr. and Roy Herbert Gray; paternal grandmother, Mary Ann Huggins; sister, Roxie L. Huggins and step-brother, Jeffery Hill.

Travis leaves to mourn six sisters: his devoted caregiver Chung D. (Mamadou) Huggins-Bah of Desoto, Texas; Paula Jean, Karen J. ( Kerrol) Locke both of Atlanta, Ga.; Clara A. ( Ronnie) Jones of Pine Bluff, Ark.; Mary Pratt of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Annie L Jackson of Memphis, Tenn.; six brothers: Emerald K. (Angela) of Grady, Ark., Gregory (Melinda) of Lexington, S.C., James E. ( Pamela) of Jacksonville, Fla., Charles L (Carol) and Castanlius D both of Dallas, Texas and Antwain D. (Wanda) of Atlanta, Ga., step-mother Doris Huggins of Grady, Ark. and step-sister Consuela Johnson of Kentucky; his maternal grandmother Mrs. Bernice Gray of Grady, Ark., one paternal uncle, James M. Huggins of Mississippi, two paternal aunts Mary Young of Mississippi and Cleora Graham of Ill, four maternal uncles Roy Gray, Jr. Arvan Gray, Le-Vaughn Gray all of Arkansas and Eddie Gray of Florida and three maternal aunts, Elizabeth Autman of Missouri, Betty Gray of Georgia and Verla Gray of Arkansas, five brother-in-laws, Melvin Gaston and Donald Gaston both of Missouri, Edward Gaston, Henry Gaston and Lester Gaston all of Arkansas. He also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, Grady High School Class of 1976, special friends Cathy Taylor (Arkansas), Clyde Daniels (Arkansas), Opal Chaney (Arkansas), Clara Wilbur (Arkansas), his nursing staff and friends at Desoto Nursing and Rehab (Texas), three god children, LaSonya Huggins (Texas), Kristopher Johnson (Missouri), Roymaiel Huggins (Arkansas), special cousin Samuel Autman (Indiana), the Church of God Pentecostal family (Arkansas), and the Aegis Communications Group, Irving, Texas family.

A Service of Praise and Thanksgiving for the Life of Travis G. Huggins will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church 3201 West 2nd Ave, Pine Bluff, Ark, 71601 by Bishop Gregory Huggins, Sr. Interment immediately following the funeral in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 6402 Princeton Pike, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71602 by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday December 14, 2012, at Brown Funeral Home 2704 Commerce Circle, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71601.

The body will lie in state at the church from 12:45 p.m. until time of service.

The family will be at 6304 Mayfield Drive, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71603.

The repass will take place at the church following the funeral.
