Staff Sergeant Thomas Leroy Tidwell, (United States Army, Retired), age 83, of Pine Bluff, died at his home surrounded by family on Saturday, August 24, 2013.
He was born September 23, 1929 at San Diego, Calif., a son of the late Silas Edgar Tidwell and Rosalie Coker Tidwell. He moved to Pine Bluff as a young child, and graduated from Watson Chapel High School.
He enlisted in the Regular Army in 1948, and served in the German occupation, the Korean Conflict, and during the Vietnam War. He retired from military service in 1968 after a career of 20 years.
Mr. Tidwell studied with Jehovah’s Witnesses and attended Kingdom Hall on Camden Road.
He was also predeceased by a son, Gary Wayne Tidwell; three sisters, Roma Taylor, Ethel Hungerford, and Carolyn Grimes; and a brother Colonel Edgar Tidwell.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Carrie Heird Tidwell; two sons, Thomas B. Tidwell and wife Kay of Pine Bluff, Richard Alan Tidwell of West Hills, Calif.; a daughter, Karen J. Holcomb and husband Danny of Pine Bluff; a sister, Norma Drake of Ravenswood, W.V.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his dear friends, Bobby and Polly Underwood.
Services will be Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel with Scott Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Fitzhugh Cemetery.
