Suzan Brewster Sams, 70, of Pine Bluff, died at home Tuesday, October 30, 2012. Born in Pine Bluff March 31, 1942 to the late Garland Brewster, Jr. and Lucretia Hilton Brewster, she was reared in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1960.
She moved to New Orleans in 1967. She and her late husband, Lewis Reeve Sams, Jr. who were married May 3, 1980, moved from New Orleans to Pine Bluff in 1992. An active member of Grace Episcopal Church, she was past chairman of the Altar Guild and past member of the Administrative Board at Lakeside United Methodist Church. She was a past board member of the Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra and past member of the Sesame Club. Suzan knew Bill W well. Her disciplined, tradition-driven compassion touched hundreds of lives over the course of three decades.
Her survivors include her son, Boothe Austin Haley of Nashville, Tenn.; stepson, Lewis R. Sams III of Lewisville, Texas; stepdaughter, Laura Jennifer Sams Watson of Tyler, Texas; and seven grandchildren. A son, Garland Brewster Haley, also preceded her in death.
Services are at 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2012 at Grace Episcopal Church with the Reverend Dr. Walter Van Zandt Windsor officiating. Interment follows in Graceland Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son.
