HARDIN — Mr. Sammy Jay Munn, age 76, of the Hardin community near Pine Bluff, died Monday February 4, 2013 at home.
He was born at Shongaloo, La. on January 17, 1937, a son of the late Samuel Ellis Munn and Era Rose Copeland Munn. He was a graduate of Shongaloo High School and attended Northwestern State University at Natchitoches, La.
Mr. Munn retired from International Paper Company after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club.
An avid domino player, he played in many tournaments in Louisiana and Arkansas and with his family. He loved gardening and enjoyed riding four wheelers and tractors with his great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Iva Nell Weaver Munn; children, Rebecca Turchi (Greg), Sammy R. Munn (Tina), Billy R. Munn, and Willie Roscoe “Pete” Elliott, all of Pine Bluff, Bobby Elliott (Janie) of Perryville, and Jack Elliott (Teresa) of Metropolis, IL eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Vira Faye Park (Leroy) and Samuel Ellis, Jr., all of Shongaloo, La.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, at Hardin Cemetery with Brother Bill Kiggins officiating. Arrangements are by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services.
