CONWAY — Joel Dougan Chandler, Jr., 85, of Conway (formerly of Pine Bluff), died Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Conway Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Chandler was born April 15, 1927, in Searcy, to the late Joel Dougan and Irma Long Chandler. He was reared and received his education in Pine Bluff, where he graduated from Pine Bluff High School. He also graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
Mr. Chandler worked most of his life in Public Relations and Development. He retired in 1994 from the University of Missouri.
Mr. Chandler was a longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where he had served as a layreader. He had also served as Treasurer on the Executive Board of the Pine Bluff Chamber of Commerce .
Mr. Chandler is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marie Bullard Chandler (whom he married October 4, 1952 in Little Rock) of Conway; four sons, Joel D. (Cheryl) Chandler, III of Overland Park, Kan., Jim Chandler of Bend, Oregon, Tom Chandler of Bella Vista, and Craig Chandler of Lawrenceville, Ga.; three grandchildren, Georgia (Wes) Hodgden of Overland Park, Kan., Caroline Chandler of Fayetteville, and Roxanne Chandler of Lawrenceville, Ga.; one great -grandson, Ashton Hodgden of Overland Park, Kan.; a sister, Pattye (Stanley) Clark of Hot Springs Village; a sister-in-law, Margaret (Rodney) Baker of Conway, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 22, 2012, at Graceland Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Walter Van Zandt Windsor officiating by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors officiating.
