Jimmy Johnson


FLINT, MICH. — Mr. Jimmy L. Johnson, age 65, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Fostrian Nursing Home.

Family hour 10 a.m., Monday, April 30, 2012 at Foss Avenue Baptist Church, 1159 E. Foss Ave., Flint, Mich., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Reginald Flynn, D. Min, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd., Flint, Mich. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Monday. Mr. Johnson now lies in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Jimmy Johnson was born December 24, 1946 in Pine Bluff, Ark., the son of Mr. Osie and Gertrude Johnson. He graduated from Merrill High School in Pine Bluff, Ark., where he was a All-State Running Back and a proud member of the “Ageless Class of 1965.” He married his childhood sweetheart Geraldine Cunningham in 1966 and from this union they had two sons, Brian and Timothy. Jimmy became employed at General Motors V-8 Engine Plant in 1969, where he gave 36 years of dedicated service as an Electrician, Committeeman and proud member of Local 659.

Jimmy was a member of Foss Avenue Baptist Church. Jimmy loved all sports, especially football. He was a free spirited person who always did things “His” way. Mr. Jimmy Johnson leaves to cherish his memory, son, Brian (Amber) Johnson of Grand Blanc, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Sade’ Johnson, Micah Johnson, Brian Johnson, Jr., Kiana Johnson, Briana Johnson, Timothy Johnson, Brianne Johnson and Brianca Johnson; four sisters, Vivian (Henry) Williams of Milwaukee, Wis., Jacqueline (Rev. Curley) Roberts of Pine Bluff, Ark., Sandra (David) Talbot of Austin, Texas and Brenda Ann Hayes of Milwaukee, Wis.; brother, Ocie (Mary) Johnson of Flint Township; aunt, Lucille Forte of Louisville, Ark.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special cousins, Herbert Colen, Joyce Washington, Charles Colen and Kenneth Colen; special friends, Curtis Kirk, George Powell, Al Wiggins, Robert Davis, Harry McClain and Jerry Valentine and the entire Merrill High School Class of 1965.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Johnson; son, Timothy Johnson; parents, Osie and Gertrude Johnson; brother, Jesse James Johnson; sisters, Gertie Davis, Maxine Jackson and Rubie Jasper.
