Milford Collins

Mr. Milford Collins, 66, passed away February 8, 2013. He was born July 9, 1946, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to the late Bishop W.C. Collins and Servant Asrene Collins, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Henry Lee Collins, Wilbert C. Collins, Bishop David J. Collins, and Floyd Mathew Collins.

As a native of Pine Bluff, Milford graduated from Merrill High School in 1965. He attended the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff from, fall ‘1965 to winter ‘1967, before enlisting into the United Air Force in the spring ‘1967. He served in the Air Force until 1976 as a sergeant, in the field of transportation.

After leaving the military, he relocated to California in 1976, and became a federal employee serving first, as an Assistant Director, then a Director, of Military Recreational Centers at Oakland Army Base and the Presidio in San Francisco. While living in the Bay Area he attended Merritt College where he obtained his Associate Degree and then transferred to San Francisco State University to seek a BS degree in Recreational Management. By 1995 the lure of the welcoming environment of home became so strong that he returned to Pine Bluff. For a number of years he was employed by Central Tube before retiring early due to medical restrictions.

Once home, he spearheaded First Pentecostal Church of Jesus Only’s Out-Reach aid for the youth in the community. He became actively involved in mentoring youth, which was his way to give something back to the community.

Survivors include his sisters, Francine Hall and Rachel Lee of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and Olivia Collins of Jonesboro, Ga.; numerous nephews, nieces, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

Services will be 2:30 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Joy Community Church by Elder James Hunt. Burial will be in Forrest Lawn Memorial Garden by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

Visitation will be 5:00-6:30 p.m. Friday from at the funeral home.

The body will lie in state at the church from 1:45 p.m. until time of service.

The family will be at 2904 West 14th Street, Pine Bluff.
