Mary Jean Johnsen Aaron, age 79, of Pine Bluff, passed away Monday, September 2, 2013, surrounded by her family.
Born February 7, 1934 at Lincoln, Neb., she was a daughter of the late John Christian Johnsen and Margurite Mildard Howe Johnsen. She was raised in Oxnard, California and moved to Pine Bluff in 1970.
Mrs. Aaron worked as a waitress for a number of years at the Snack Shop for Jack Gentle, the Simmons Restaurant for Susie Gentle, and as manager at Union Station. She also owned Special Occasions, a cake and catering service, and coordinated weddings.
She was an accomplished musician (who played by ear) on several different instruments, including the piano, organ, accordion, and dobro. She played piano in nightclubs, sang on radio and for weddings, and church gatherings from ages 15-18. In and around Pine Bluff, she played with bands such as The Traditionals and Wildwood Country, in numerous places such as the Highway 15 Fire Department, six different area nursing homes, and senior citizen’s groups.
Survivors include her husband, Sam H. Aaron, whom she married on April 30, 1973; her children, Todd Mutzberg (Sharon), Joyce Watson (Jeff), Rochelle Henry (David), and Malette Mathews (Jeff); a sister, Rosie Garrison (Chuck); 15 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Thursday, 10 a.m. at Fitzhugh Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services.
Visitation will be Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Terrell and his staff, and Dr. Atiq and his staff at Arkansas Cancer Center for their excellent care of Mrs. Aaron during her illness.
