Major Edward F. “Bud” Elam United States Army Retired, 90, of Pine Bluff, Ark., passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Davis Life Care.
He was born January 16, 1923, in Kingsland, Ark., to Lillie and Edward F. Elam, Sr.
He was orphaned at the age of 5 and was raised by his aunt and uncle, Lucy and Charles Offutt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; aunt and uncle; a sister, Marguerite Burns and two step sisters.
He was drafted in the United States Army in 1943 and served in Germany and Japan during World War II, receiving the Bronze Star medal in Germany. He also served in the Korean War. He rose in rank from Private to Major during his 20 years of service, retiring in 1964.
After retiring he attended Texas A&M College for 3 years, majoring in Wildlife Science.
He is survived by his wife, Lurline G. Elam, whom he married in 1969; step children, Sandra McFalls, Lynn Lord (Jim), Tom Goodbar (Linda); step grandchildren, Laura Lord, Chris Lord, Scott McFalls, Leah Via, Tom Jackson; several great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; two special nephews, Bob and Bill Burns and a niece, Judy Frederick.
He was last employed for several years as a buyer for W & A Mfg. Company, retiring a few years ago.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf.
He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, former member of Pine Bluff Evening Lions Club and Clements-Offutt Deer Club.
A Memorial Graveside service by Ralph Robinson & Son will be 4:00 p.m., Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Graceland Cemetery with Dr. Dan Festa officiating.
