Mrs. Leila Wilkins O’Keefe, 79, of Pine Bluff died at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock on Sunday, February 10, 2013.
Born in Pine Bluff April 27, 1933, to the late Walter Jeter and Leila Coles Wilkins, she grew up in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1951. Leila married Arthur William O’Keefe, Jr. September 6, 1951, and was a long-standing resident of Pine Bluff.
Leila was a deeply devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In her early adult years she worked for AP&L and then went on to work for Wilkins Oil Company as a part-owner. She was a former member of the PTAs in her children’s schools. She was a life-long and active member of First Presbyterian Church where she was involved in choir and Sunday school, and served as Youth Director. She was chairman of the church Cookbook Committee and instrumental in creating the Blessings cookbook.
Leila received the Presbyterian Women Lifetime Membership Award for her years of dedication to her church. She was active in the community with the Junior Auxiliary in the 1950s and 1960s.
Leila was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Dr. Walter Jeter Wilkins, Jr. and Howard Coles Wilkins.
Her survivors include two daughters, Laura O’Keefe Smart (Lee), Helen O’Keefe King (Dutch), all of Pine Bluff; grandchildren, Madelynn Smart Ross, Mary Corinne Smart, Laura Beth Smart Shaner, Lee Smart III. Hudson Smart, Leila King Simon, Helen Grace King, Dutch Christian King; great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Garrett, Clayton, Grey, Anna Elise, and Sumner.
Services are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, at First Presbyterian Church in Pine Bluff with Reverends Russell Wilkins and David Fleming officiating. Committal follows in Graceland Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son. The family will receive friends at 1302 West 46th.
