ORANGE PARK, Fla. — Precious mother and grandmother, Laverne Ebert (nee Priest) passed away at age 90 on August 5, 2013, surrounded by her family at her home in Orange Park, Fla., who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her son, Joe Allen Fisher; husband, Gayle Ebert; parents, Rachel Loucinda Priest and Joseph Andrew Priest; brothers, Leroy Doyan Priest, Murlin Priest, Andrew Priest, Clyde Priest, Clifton (Buddy) Priest, L.D. Priest; sisters, Lillian Priest Griffin, Lela Priest Scott, Lois Priest Prince, and Eloise Priest Kumpe; as well as her stepsister and best friend Willie Louise “Bill” (Potter) Carter.
She is survived by her son, Jack Vernon Fisher (Kathy); daughter, Sandra Woolsey (Jim), ninegrandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Laverne worked hard all her life, both in and out of the home. She held various jobs from field worker on her family farm, to factory inspector in California, to construction assistant working with her contractor husband building homes in Colorado. Although she only went to the seventh grade, she taught herself typing, shorthand, and bookkeeping.
She was beautiful, smart, independent, a loving mother and devoted wife. She loved to play the guitar and sing God’s praises. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing, gardening, fishing, winning at Bingo, and horseback riding. She lived in eleven states: Arkansas, Louisiana, California, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Washington, Texas, New Mexico, and Florida.
The family wishes to thank Community Hospice for their support and care during this difficult time. In accordance with her wishes her ashes will be scattered at her and her husband’s favorite fishing spot in California; no services will be held locally. The family is not requesting flowers; however, if anyone wishes, a donation may be made to Community Hospice Foundation, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Fla. 32257.
