Our family lost a wonderful loved one and valuable friend, when Kenneth Wayne Currie passed away on September 16, 2013. Kenneth was born on November 7, 1955 in Pine Bluff, Ark., to the late Thelma M. Currie and Hurthle Lee Currie Sr. He grew up in a loving family of two brothers and two sisters. After being baptized at a young age, Kenneth was a faithful and dedicated member of Cherry Street AME Zion Church of Pine Bluff, Ark., where he served in the children’s and young adult choirs.
His early formative education was obtained in the Dollarway School System of Pine Bluff, Ark., where he participated in the school band, playing the trumpet. After graduating from Dollarway High School, Kenneth attended and graduated from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff with a Bachelor of Science degree in Institutional Dietetics and Food Administration.
He continued his academic experiences by attending the Culinary School of Washington, D.C. He preceded in death by his mother; Thelma M. Currie. Father; Hurthle Lee Currie Sr. Brothers; Hurthle Lee Currie Jr and Alywin Doyle Currie.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved sisters; Adelaide (Earnest) Walker of Greensboro, N.C. and Valorie (Gregory) Bedford of Hurst, Texas. Uncle; Dr. Herbert C. (Reverend Dr. Mildred Harris) Harris of Chicago, Ill. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Cherry Street AME Zion by Pastor Carla Perry Johnson. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery by Christian Way Funeral Home. Visitation will be today from 5-7 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
