Joyce Elain Crowder was born on December 6, 1957 in Pine Bluff, Ark.
She was the youngest of five children born to Cornelius and Tennessee Crowder. Both of her parents and oldest brother, Cornelius Crowder, Jr. preceded her in death. Joyce was educated in Pine Bluff, Ark. where she attended Townsend Park Elementary and Dollarway High School. Upon graduation from high school, Joyce attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Upon graduation, she was commissioned an officer in the U.S. Army on September 14, 1980 as a Second Lieutenant in the Finance Corps and would go on to achieve the rank of “Major”. She served thought out the United States, Korea, and Germany. Joyce departed this life on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, as gently and privately as she lived.
She leaves to share her memories two sisters Marion (John) Miller of Fishers, Ind., Carolyn (Donald) Moore of Louisville, Ky.; and one brother, Kenneth (Sharon) Crowder of Fishers, Ind.; two aunts, Delores McCorvey, and Queen Ester Harrell of Pine Bluff, Ark.; three nieces and two nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
