CHICAGO — Johnnie Q. Edwards Vaughn went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 1, 2013.
Born and raised in Sherrill, Ark., Johnnie married Alfred E. Vaughn, Jr., of Marvell, Ark., (who preceded her in death in 2007) in 1958, and they moved to Chicago in 1960.
She earned her Masters of Arts degree in Special Education in 1981 and served as an educator in the Chicago school system until her retirement in 2000. Johnnie’s tireless devotion to God and the study of his Word led her to devote her time and energy to many ministries.
She became an ordained minister in 1996. Her trademark wearing of “all white” symbolized her devotion to God and the love of his word. Johnnie leaves to cherish her memory her eight children, Sharon, Anthony, Alfreda, Lekeda, Donica, Camille, Alfred, III, and Patricia; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and other members of the Vaughn family.
