STAR CITY — John Wesley Kesner, Jr., 90 of Star City, died Thursday at his home. He was born October 10, 1922 in Greenwood, Ark., to the late John Wesley and Bonnie Bell Cross Kesner, Sr. In 1941, Mr. Kesner entered Missionary Baptist Seminary in Little Rock where he earned his degree. During his 77 years of ministry, Bro. Kesner pastured 14 churches in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, including Southside Baptist Church in Star City. Through the years he served as Registrar of the National Meeting and the National Advisory Board to the P.K (Preacher’s Kids) Club of the A.B.A. He also served as Medical Director of the A.B.A National Youth Camps for several years. At one time Bro. Kesner founded and taught several Seminary Bible courses for young ministers and Local Christian Church workers in several states. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years; Irene Poynor Kesner, siser; Mary Bell Swearingen.
Survivors include two daughters; Beverly Hansen of Star City and Barbara Buras of Prattsville, four brothers; Winfred “Wimpy” Kesner of Fort Smith, Herbert (Lois) Kesner of New Boston, Texas, Dale (MaryLou) Kesner and Mark (Marcelle) Kesner, both of Fort Smith, five grandchildren; Melody (Steven) David, Todd (Allison) Buras, Wes (Tara) Hansen, Tammy Tucker and Rachael (Jared) Billings and 18 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services are 11:00 a.m. Monday at Griffin Funeral Chapel in Star City with Rev. Eddie Sutton, Rev. Larry Earhart, Rev. Chad Graves and Rev. Neal Pumphrey officiating. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Philadelphia Cemetery in Prattsville. Pallbearers are Bruce Tucker, Jay Hansen, Jeremy Bennett, David Raney, Trevor Tucker and Tyler Billings. Honorary pallbearers are the ABA Ministers.
