Jewel Chavies

Mrs. Jewel Lene Jackson Chavies was born March 1, 1946 in Pine Bluff, to Gentle and Bertha Glover, she departed this life on September 26, 2012. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Jackson; father, Gentle “Happy” Jackson; sister, Linda “Che-Che” Jackson.

Jewel accepted Christ in her life at an early age, Jewel, although born in Pine Bluff, grew up in Los Angeles, Calif., and graduated from Jordan High School. She attended Los Angeles Trade Tech. She was then employed by Amtrak for 25 plus years and later retired.

In Jewel spare time she enjoyed shopping especially with her mother, watching Lifetime movies, searching the internet, staying informed through news media, and keeping in close contact with her family. Most of all she enjoyed spending quality family time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild whom she loved dearly. They brought the most joy to her life.

Survivors: her loving husband, James Chavies of Pine Bluff; two greatest accomplishments in life, sons, Craig (Nakia) Chavies of Calif., Akil (Tanesha) Chavies of Texas; her loving mother, Bertha Glover; six sisters, Robbie Rowe of Calif., Joyce Jackson Palm of California, Jennifer Jackson of California, Gwendolyn Jackson of California, Gail Simon of Arkansas, Darlene Jackson of California; eight grandchildren, Tiffany Chavies, Nijah Chavies, Andre Chavies, Assata Chavies, Donovan Robinson, Akil Chavies, Jr., Keilan Chavies, Dorian Chavies; one great-granddaughter, Brandi Hughes; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday 2 p.m. New St. Hurricane MBC Rev. Reginald Adams officiating.

Visitations may be made Monday 6-7 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Hooker. Perry Funeral Home in charg of arrangements.
