Jamie Young


Jamie Lee Kearney Young went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 10, 2012. She was born September 27, 1937, in Pastoria, Ark., to Ethel and Thomas Kearney.

A graduate of Field High School in Gould, she attended Arkansas AM&N before moving to California and marrying George D. Young. She worked at Mattel Toy Company before her teaching career began. She received her B.A from Cal State University at Los Angeles, Calif., and spent 35 years teaching preschool and elementary grades in Compton Unified School District and Inglewood Unified School District. The devoted mother and scholar is survived by her four children Carla Denise Young Mayfield (Norman), Kevin Leman Young (Debbie), April Antoinette Young Hawley (Michelle) and Keith A. Young (Tiffany); 13 grandchildren, Michell Young, Kevin Young Jr., Norman Mayfield Jr., Dhani Mayfield, Ebony Mayfield, Christina Hawley, David Hawley, Sean Mayfield, Yamissa Mayfield, Caylin Young, Jasmine Young, Jenna Young, Keith Young; four great-grandchildren: Destiny Young, Amiyah Young, Justin Juarequi, Matthew Young. She leaves to mourn her 17 brothers and sisters: Clara Harper, Cecil Green, James T. Kearney Jr., Jerrell Kearney, John L. Kearney, Jan Kearney King, Janetta Kearney, Joseph Kearney, Joyce K. Richardson, Jesse L. Kearney, Jack R. Kearney, Julius D. Kearney, Janic Kearney Nash, Jerome Kearney, Jude D. Kearney, Jeffery H. Kearney, Judy Kearney Ramos; her father, Thomas James “TJ” Kearney.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 20, 11:00 a.m., Rankin Chapel MBC, Highway 114, Chesapeake Rd., Gould, Rev. Jimmy Polk officiating. Minister Joseph Kearney will deliver the Eulogy. Burial will be in Union Cemetery HWY. 65 North in Gould. Perry Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
