James Harris Jr.


James Calvin “J C” Harris, Jr. of Pine Bluff died Thursday, September 5, at his home.

He was born October 28, 1932 in Cleveland County to James Calvin and Mayzell Lutrell Harris.

Mr. Harris was reared and received his early education in Cleveland County, graduating from Woodlawn High School. He attended Arkansas A&M in Monticello and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He served in the U S Army.

He worked for the Cotton Belt Railroad for 44 years, retiring as a supervisor in the A&WE Department.

Mr. Harris was an active member of First Assembly of God, where he had served in many departments.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Laurel Francel Harris.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Shoop Harris, who he married April 8, 1955; his children, David and Janet Harris, and their children, Jamie and Rebekah Harris, Steven Harris; Sandi and Steve Metz and their daughter, Kelli and Aaron Huntley; three great-grandchildren, a brother, Orville Harris Crockett, Texas; sisters, Juanita Tomkins, Carolyn Freeman of Rison and Floy Ferguson of White Hall.

Services will be noon, Monday, September 9, 2013, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son, with Reverend Gary Bell officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, by Ralph Robinson and Son.

The family will receive friends at Robinson’s Sunday afternoon, 2-4 p.m.
