VAN BUREN — James A (Jim) Burr, 66 of Van Buren passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013 in a local hospital. He was born Feb 3 1947 in East St. Louis, Illinois raised in Rison, Ark., and Watson Chapel, Ark., Area where he graduated from Watson Chapel High School in 1965.
Jim was a Military US Army Ranger Scout, former Arkansas State Trooper, 3rd degree Black Belt and was inducted into the Taiho-Ryu Karate and Ju-Jistu Hall of Fame in 2010. In Jim’s career he was also a master plumber and a independent insurance agent; a member of the PRCA Steer Wrestling Association and also a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Belle Point Lodge#20 of Fort Smith, AR. He is preceded in death by his parents Florence Arline Ratliff and Wilbert Burr and two grandsons.
Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with Sammy Alverson officiating under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home, Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife Joy Lee (Bunny) Burr of Van Buren, Ark., his son Jeffrey Wade Burr also of Van Buren Ark., a daughter Stacy Marie Burr Thacker and son in law Tommy Thacker of Alma, Ark.; three grandchildren, Jacob, Dawn, and Ashley Thacker of Alma, Ark.; three neices and one nephew, as well as four great-nieces and nephews and many others that he considered children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the home of the family at 1209 Rena Rd, Van Buren Ark., from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013.
