Helen Bohannan

Helen Jewell “Judy” Bohannan, 91, of Pine Bluff, born January 19, 1921, went to be with the Lord peacefully January 15, 2013. Born in Possum Valley, Ark., to the late Albert and Servilla Knowles. Judy was the oldest of three daughters, sisters, Elizabeth Ophelia “Bitty” Knowles Jones (Willis) of Lacey, and Betty Ann Knowles Findley (Mickey) of Monticello.

She served the country as a clerical liaison to the Italian POW camp at Monticello.

She was married to the late Woodrow Malvern Bohannan, Sr. in August of 1944.

Living in Pine Bluff, the two reared Woodrow Malvern “Woody” Bohannan, Jr. (Betsy Rice) of Pine Bluff and Judith Jan Wheeler of Pensicola, Florida and half-daughter, Sally Ann Scott (Herb) of Yuma, Arizona.

She retired from Arkansas Social Services after 35 years as a case worker.

Judy was blessed with three grandchildren, Heather Bohannan Smith (Shane) of Sherwood, Woodrow Malvern “Trey” Bohannan III (Tina) of Pine Bluff and Amy Ruth Wheeler of Alexandria, Virginia; great grandchildren, Brett Craine and Lydia Nicole Bohannan of Pine Bluff, Tanner Beau Smith and Tatum Brooke Smith of Sherwood; step grandchildren, Jeremy Rice (Leslie) and Bradley Rice (Sarah); step great grandchildren, Madyson, Brayden and Kipton Michael Rice, all of Pine Bluff; nephew, “Sampy” Jones and great niece, Turah Jones Rush and great nephew, David Jones all of Lacey. With much appreciation, Maria and Juaquin Lopez, her home caregivers. In her retired years Judy was cared for by loving friends Oscar “My Boy” Bullard Sr. and Lilly Patrick. Judy was blessed with many Spring/Summer gardens which she harvested and canned. She had a love for farm life. Her cattle, dogs and cats were a special part of her later years. Our family will be forever grateful for the love and support of those listed above.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday January 19, 2013, at Valley Ozment Sixteenth Cemetery near Monticello, by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Rev. R.V. White officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. at Robinson’s Friday evening.
